Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapists are licensed health professionals who assist in greater health, wellbeing, and meaning through everyday life. Occupational therapists listen deeply to understand your unique narrative, all the roles you play in your life, and the unique challenges you face to achieve your daily goals. Occupational therapists then focus on getting you involved in the everyday activities and how to adapt daily activities to achieve greater success.

Somatic Based Occupational Therapy

Soma means body. I offer a somatic based approach to Occupational Therapy. The emphasis of my work is on building a greater capacity for embodiment and connection to the felt sense of your body. Occupational therapists work with the sense of interoception, or your ability to sense the internal state of your body, Scientists and researchers have discovered a powerful connection between interoceptive appraisal skills and self-regulation, emotional identification, emotional regulation, social skills, and nearly every task in daily life.

Sensory Wellness / Sensory Integration

Sensory processing and integration is foundational to healthy development, function, participation, learning and psychological well-being. I offer services to assist in processing sensory information providing emotional stability, a platform for social interaction, and a sense of well being.

A client experiencing sensory processing difference may:

  • Experience emotional reactivity
  • Poor attention and focus
  • Disorganization
  • Difficulty tolerating smells, certain tastes, textures, lights, or sounds
  • Overwhelmed by crowded places
  • Difficulties with body awareness
  • Limited decision making and problem solving
  • Problems with relationships or socialization

Safe and Sound Protocol

The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is an evidence-based therapeutic tool designed to reset the nervous system and return it to safety. The SSP involves listening to specially filtered music through headphones to improve sound sensitivities and auditory processing, behavioral regulation, and social engagement. The SSP repatterns neural networks and improves regulation of the autonomic nervous system for lasting change. The SSP interrupts chronic states of nervous system defense by stimulating the neural networks associated with listening. This ushers the nervous system out of a defensive state and into a socially engaged state.

Pediatric Occupational Therapy

I offer pediatric occupational therapy for children and adolescents, considering the whole child and global development. I assist in building foundational skills to assist your child in improving success in daily life. A child’s main occupation is play. I create a connection with your child and use play as a means to learn, to build skills, express emotions, and expand regulation, attention, and participation in daily activities. I specialize in developmental delays, sensory integration, emotional and nervous system regulation, as well as developing social and relational skills. I work with children with autism, sensory processing disorder, fine motor delays, feeding concerns, visual motor and handwriting challenges, and more.

In Home Therapy

I offer in home OT therapy or at a community location (park, school, daycare). This allows treatment to take place in the child’s natural environment which is highly supported through research. Therapy in a child’s natural environment allows real life day to day concerns to be assessed and addressed. Substantial progress can be made when in the comfort of your familiar safe space.
